General anxiety is an expected part of life. Feeling ongoing restlessness, irritability, panic, and worry is bad for your overall well being. Anxiety causes our hearts to beat faster, our blood pressure to rise and it can even cause us to become short of breath. Gone unmanaged, over time, our bodies begin to wear down. For example, chronic anger is linked to a higher risk of heart disease, and poorer outcomes for people with existing heart disease. (Journal of the American College of Cardiology, 2009). Processes to release anxiety filled anger and surrender to forgiveness are difficult. It takes serious effort to learn that forgiveness is not the same as justice, nor does it require reconciliation. Forgiveness is about releasing the chronic interpersonal stress and the anxiety that make us physically unhealthy. When you get rid of anger, your muscles relax and your immune system can strengthen. If you’re like me, you’ve look for ways to stay calm enough to do the prescribed work.
When ongoing anxiety produces a feeling of never-ending doom and frustration, depression can set in. It’s important to find ways to help yourself see light at the end of the tunnel, to do activities that give you a sense of control, and to challenge your thinking and limiting beliefs. We know that. Again, I’ve asked myself, what can I do to calm down enough to exercise, meditate, breathe, and/or clear my mind enough to challenge my thinking?
Essential oils can be used in conjunction with other mood management methods. The Forgive blend helps to counteract emotions of anger, while promoting the feelings of contentment and patience. Lavender was my gateway oil. It calms a racing mind. Peace and Console are blends to offer support with becoming centered again. These have become the tools I use to steady myself so I can engage in productive remedies like exercise, meditation, reading, or therapy. When I’m calmer, I make better food choices. When I’m able to focus, getting lost in a good book is a soothing distraction for me. When my mind is quieted, massage therapy is more relaxing and healing. Our oils help me put the horse before the cart, so I can drive the results I need.
I tell people, our essential oils are not a silver bullet. They are rarely a one stop solution. However, they are magical assistants to help with the hard physical and mental work we need to do to stay healthy.
